The beginnings...

Allow me to briefly explain why natural cosmetics from lavera came into being – and what is special about them.

laverana´s story is also my story and it has both a simple as well as a personal background: since I was two years old I have suffered from neurodermatitis. Back then this skin disorder was not well known. The usual cosmetic and medicinal creams could not help me. That is why, even in my youth, I began to have a good look at alternative skin-care possibilities.

It was only natural that I later opened one of the first organic foods shops in Germany together with friends. Like many others, we also wanted to have a healthy dict and live in a healthy way. And of course we were (and still are today!) motivated by a wariness of chemicals, pesticides and large industry. During this time I began to cultivate my own plants, and develop formulations for natural cosmetics that might help my skin.

The first product

In summer 1975 I had made it: my first lip balm stick withstood the personal "stress-test" - the protection of my over-sensitive skin during summer holidays in Denmark. I will never forget its formula of wool wax, beeswax and olive oil.

lavera' s hour of birth

In 1987 after more than 10 years research and cosmetic development, I founded my own company on a small estate near Hanover: the laverana GmbH. Today, approximately 240 employees produce genuine natural cosmetics in our own buildings on the outskirts of the beautiful Deister mountains.

lavera - "the truth"

Natural cosmetics that you know under the brand name lavera – a name carefully chosen for its meaning: In Latin lavera means “the truth”. A lovely translation for one dedication which is both philosophy and commitment. We use raw plant materials, as far as possible from certified organic agriculture, our products are 100% free from synthetic perfumes, colorants and preservatives. And of course, we ensure skin compatibility through tests with volunteers, in collaboration with skin specialists and allergists.

Our many awards prove that the original totally nature-based notion and innovative, modern ideas can be combined.
